Going Faster: Testing The Web Application ( Edward Hieatt, Robert Mee ; IEEE Software Magazine 2002-03)

- This article documents the experiences of the Extreme Programming (XP) team at Evant with regards to the Testing aspect of XP. It highlights the benefits the team enjoys from the approach of Test-First Design and the obstacles overcome in creating testable code for the many technologies commonly in use in Web Application architectures. Testing is a fundamental aspect of Extreme Programming but is a practice that too often falls by the wayside in today's fast-paced Web Application development culture. At Evant, each of the principles of Extreme Programming has been adhered to from the beginning, and Testing is no exception. This article explains how the team at Evant has found that Testing, positioned as the drive behind development, has been critical to the success of building Evant's application at speed while maintaining a high degree of quality.

Server-Side Design Principles for Scalable Internet Systems ( Colleen Roe, Sergio Gonik ; IEEE Software Magazine 2002-03)

- Today's Internet systems face real challenges in trying to serve large numbers of concurrent users. This article explores design principles guiding the creation of scalable systems. Each principle is discussed and followed by examples of its application. The article then moves on to discuss broader-based design strategies that incorporate the application of several principles simultaneously.

Understanding and Reducing Web Delays ( MazenZari, HosseinSaiedian, MuhammadNaeem ; IEEE Computer Magazine 2001-12)

The Evolution of Web-Caching Markets ( Chris Kenyon ; IEEE Computer Magazine 2001-11)

Identifying Web Browsing Trends and Patterns ( Alan L. Montgomery, Christos Faloutsos ; IEEE Computer Magazine 2001-07)

NCSA's World Wide Web Server: Design and Performance ( Thomas T. Kwan, Robert E. McGrath, Daniel A. Reed ; IEEE Computer Magazine 1995-11)

- Explosive Web traffic growth has placed burdens on Web servers that lie far outside today’s normal operating regime. This article examines extant Web access patterns with the aim of developing more efficient file-caching and prefetching strategies.
